Ancient Bharata Vedas suggest on Sleeping !!

Our Ancient scriptures recommend us to sleep between 9 PM to 3:30 AM.

The sleep required for our body (for the cell regeneration) in number of hours is proportional to the physical tiredness of that day.

But sleep required for the mental level(mind) is different. It has got a connection with the moon's position. (The moon over the head of lord Shiva is a beautiful symbolism to explain how mind and moon are linked.)

Between 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM, each hour fetches you 2 units of sleep/hour.
Between 12:00 AM to 3:00 AM, each hour fetches you 1 unit of sleep/hour.
Between 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM, each hour fetches you ½ unit of sleep/hour.

Before 9:00 PM and after 6:00 AM, we get negligible units of sleep per hour. An active mind which analyzes a lot needs preferably more units of sleep. On an average, in the same way doctors suggest us to sleep for at least 7 hours a day, it was suggested by the ancient sages to get at least 9 units of sleep.
*And if you happen to be a software developer, then you need 10 or more units.

If you sleep at 9:00 PM, you will definitely see the difference in your mind's thinking capacity and efficiency. You can check yourself how the giddiness and dullness gets into your head if your mind lacks those 9 units of sleep.

Based on this, you can estimate the number of hours you might need per day to stay physically and mentally healthy.
